Oo-Kinza Fish House

Updated: Feb 18

KIN KIN O-Ka-Ne by Oo-Kinza Fish House is a Japanese restaurant that is one of the first of its kind in Toronto. Stepping through the doors, we wondered how we entered Japan. The restaurant is covered from floor to ceiling with decorations that make it seem as though you walked through the city doors into Japan itself. The walls are covered with posters, the floors have a "street" vibe, and there are mini stalls that sell goods or just act as seating but create the storefront look.

Torched Salmon Don ($28)

  • By far the best of the meal, when it arrived it looked average but once we started digging in, it was delicious. We wanted more and more and wished we just ordered the don over the Chefs Choice Sushi.

  • The torched salmon was perfect and paired well with the rice, although we're unsure what was in it, 100% going back for it again in the future.

Chefs Choice Sushi - 10pcs ($32)

Salmon, tuna, hamachi, shrimp, sweet ebi, scallop, saba, etc.

  • I wouldn't say it was bad because it came with 10 different pieces of sushi, which were very fresh but some were better than others. Overall, it just wasn't worth it for the number of pieces you get compared to other orders. It was still good and worth a try though if you prefer sushi over sashimi.

  • Regret getting this dish and will definitely allocate this money somewhere else next time we go.

Chefs Choice Sashimi - 20pcs ($38)

Salmon, tuna, hamachi, shrimp, sweet ebi, saba, etc.

  • Similar to the Chefs Choice Sushi, it was a good selection of fish, but this was more worth the cost. The fish was still very fresh but you ended up with double the number of fish for only $6 more.

  • This is also recommended as it's reasonably priced as well for good quality and quantity.

TIP! If you're planning on giving this place a try, the Chefs Choice Sushi and Sashimi are identical to the Haru Bokksu in fish similarity but it costs almost $20 less, although you miss out on 3 pieces of fish, it's definitely worth your money to get the 2 Chefs Choice instead of the 1 full plater.
